Funny Car racer Todd Lesenko is one explosively-lucky guy. On the first day of the recent U.S. Nationals drag race event in Indianapolis, Lesenko’s 7,000-horsepower engine exploded as it was speeding down the track at 280 miles per hour shooting parts of it and its Chevy Impala body at least 50 feet high into the air. Despite this, Lesenko’s car won the heat and the uninjured driver was able to compete the following day.
Driving his backup Grime Oil car on Sunday, Lesenko earned a spot in the finals, during which his engine blew up once again while speeding him to another win. Amazingly, the Funny Car man escaped unscathed.
